Another Day in the Pool

By |2021-03-22T09:53:39-07:00August 14th, 2020|

I slept in late so I missed the bike ride in Westlake with the Old Kranks, but the weather was just right for another dip in the pool. There were a few other people sitting around one of the tables under the umbrella, but I was the only one in the pool. I had the whole pool to myself. I did quite a bit of swimming and even when I got out of the pool, one of the guys sitting at the table mentioned that I had gotten in quite a lot of laps. Later that day, my pedals were [...]

Zuma Beach

By |2021-03-22T09:51:40-07:00August 13th, 2020|

Today, I drove out to Zuma. I found a place to park and then headed to the beach. It was high tide and it was great. A little time in the salt water did wonders for my foot. I had a sore on my left ankle and it was pretty red, but the salt water made it heal really quickly.

Time for a Swim

By |2021-03-22T09:49:25-07:00August 11th, 2020|

I had ridden for 3 days in a row and they were pretty challenging, so I decided to do some cross training and I went for a swim. The pool temperature was just right. I didn’t even have to get used to the temperature, I just slid right in. I got in some good laps and it was a nice change of pace from cycling, plus the water is really good for my muscles.

Heart Was Pumping!

By |2021-03-22T09:48:15-07:00August 10th, 2020|

I headed out to Westlake Village to ride with the Old Kranks. I have been riding with the faster group and they really ride at a strong pace. It was a great ride around Westlake Village. I am always amazed at all the beautiful places here in California. My heart was really pumping, but I kept pace with the group. This was a great way to start the week. I did a little over 17 miles in an hour and 23 minutes with an elevation of 515 feet. So, I did 3 consecutive days of cycling. I was tired.

Ride Along Rincon

By |2021-03-16T09:01:39-07:00August 9th, 2020|

I headed up to Ventura to Patagonia where I met up with Gail and Dave. I always like riding with Dave. He adds such a special something to the ride. It’s his personality. He is just so down to earth! So, we headed up the coast and maintained an easy pace all the way to Bates. We made several stops along the way. Dave told me that we didn’t have to ride 525 miles, like the usual CCC, but he still wants to ride 525 miles and I do too. I really wanted to ride from San Francisco, but I [...]

Tough Uphill, Sweet Downhill

By |2021-03-16T08:58:19-07:00August 8th, 2020|

Well, today was a big day. I got the text the night before for a ride to the Rock Store. I had heard of the Rock Store route, and I knew it was a tough climb. I hadn’t ridden all week, so I was rested and up to the challenge. I met Noreen and Gail at The Landing in Westlake Village at 7:00 am. It was an early call, but I didn’t have to wake up that early, since I didn’t have to drive as far as Ventura. We left The Landing and made our way to the Rock Store. [...]

Breezing Through Westlake Village Again

By |2021-03-16T08:54:29-07:00August 3rd, 2020|

I met up with the Old Kranks. That group has been wonderful to me. We took the usual route through Westlake Village. I rode with Earl. I asked for Ben since Tom who met on Saturday knew a Ben who was an Old Krank, but it was not the same Ben. Too bad. Well, we rode around Westlake and it was a beautiful ride. I was at the end of the line, but I got a chance to talk with Earl. He was helping me shift. It is amazing how you can meet people and just connect with them. Cycling [...]

Making More Connections

By |2021-03-16T08:52:55-07:00August 1st, 2020|

I got an invite from Noreen to go cycling, starting in Camarillo and then down PCH to Trancas and then back. It sounded like a great ride. When I got to Camarillo, the same starting point as Wednesday with the Old Kranks, I only knew Noreen. Everyone else was a stranger to me – three men and two women – but they were very welcoming and friendly. They had been cycling for a long time, so they were pros. We headed down Las Posas. It was a pretty fast group. Peggy and Jane took off really fast and Noreen and [...]
